This is a rare and highly practical "Shonai *sukima-dansu*" (narrow-profile chest) that preserves the traditional design aesthetics of the Shonai region in Yamagata Prefecture. **Prestigious Shonai-style metalwork (raised relief of pine and turtle):** The bottom drawer features substantial iron hardware?adorned with a magnificent raised relief of the pine tree and turtle, symbols of longevity and prosperity?serving as a striking and powerful accent. **Space-saving slim profile:** Designed with a narrow width, this chest fits neatly into tight gaps, dead spaces, or small corners without creating a sense of crowding or visual heaviness. **Beautiful gradation of jet-black and natural wood tones:** The drawer fronts feature a glossy black lacquer-like finish, while the upper sides display a warm, reddish-amber (*akatame*) wood tone, creating an air of dignified elegance. **Sturdy construction and traditional hardware:** Reinforced metal fittings protect the corners, and the upper sides retain the original "pole-carrying brackets" (*kan-kanamono*)?a distinctive feature of antique chests used for transport. **Compact yet functional:** Despite its small size, it offers four drawers, making it an invaluable storage piece for organizing documents, stationery, tea ceremony utensils, accessories, or valuables. It is a superb item that looks stunning not only in Japanese-style interiors but also in modern, minimalist, or industrial-style spaces.
