This piece is a *jidai-tansu* (antique chest) from the Shonai region of Tohoku?a style highly prized among traditional Japanese furniture. It is a low-profile chest (or lowboard) that commands attention, featuring a lavish use of solid *keyaki* (Japanese zelkova) wood for its front panels. The wood displays the powerful, beautiful grain characteristic of *keyaki*, while its hue has deepened over years of use?embodying the exquisite charm unique to antique Japanese furniture. The contrast between the wood and the rugged, sturdy iron fittings typical of Shonai *tansu* lends an air of dignified elegance to the room. While its low profile makes it practical for use as a TV stand or a primary storage unit in the living area, it is a statement piece capable of transforming the entire room into a sophisticated space blending Japanese modern and vintage styles. Please note that the key is not included.
