This exceptional chest was crafted for wealthy merchants and samurai families by the era's finest artisans, who dedicated an immense amount of time and painstaking effort to its creation. What sets this piece apart from modern furniture?giving it such a commanding presence?is its combination of robust, hand-forged iron fittings and multiple layers of hand-applied lacquer. The metal fittings, featuring bold yet intricate designs hammered out individually by artisans using a *tagane* (chisel), exude an artistic quality that transcends mere structural reinforcement.
