長火鉢は、日本で江戸時代から使われてきた伝統的な暖房器具です。縦長の箱型の形をしており、下部に火床があり、上部には囲炉裏のように火床の周りに囲いが付いています。主に炭や薪を燃料として使用し、火床の周りに座ったり、横になったりして暖をとります。冬の寒い時期に、家や部屋を暖めるために使われてきました。長火鉢は、暖房器具としてだけでなく、調理器具としても使用されてきました。長火鉢の火床で、煮物や炊飯、焼き物などの料理を作ることができます。天板を自作してローテーブルとしても素敵です。日本の伝統的な暖房器具であり、日本の冬の風物詩の一つです。
